After a water main has been renewed with Duraliner™, there may be a need to add a tee, fitting, hydrant connection, or make a repair when a renewed line may have been damaged in some unrelated excavation.

In any of these cases, a section of the host pipe and Duraliner™ is cut out to add a fitting or to remove a damaged section.

In this sequence, a standard ductile iron wheel cutter is used to make a circumferential cut through the ductile iron line. This is done with a hand cutter. After this cut is made, the short length of ductile iron is pulled off using a slight twisting motion. If the cut piece will not move by hand, a grinding wheel is used to score the ductile iron longitudinally, and then the cut is finished with a hand chisel to allow removal. A small pry bar may be used in the longitudinal cut to relieve the line for easy removal. The opposing end is prepared in the same manner.

The circumferential cut will expose the Duraliner™ pipe

Once Duraliner™ is exposed standard mechanical fittings can be used fro reconnection
