Rehabilitation of 6" Water Distribution Line
Underground Solutions was contracted by the Plum Borough Municipal Authority to rehabilitate a 6" asbestos cement water distribution pipe on a 5% grade. The existing pipe was leaking excessively, causing significant flood damage to residents. The Plum Borough Municipal Authority chose Duralinerâ„¢ because of their need for a monolithic, gasket-free piping system that would meet requirements for volume and pressure. There was no other fully structural solution available that could fulfill these system requirements.
The project required seven access pits because the line included 12 service taps. A 2" bypass line was installed to ensure minimum disruption to water customers.
In one day, UGSI technicians made 17 fusion joints to form a continuous, 326-foot length of 4" DR-18 Duralinerâ„¢ starting stock, inserted the starting stock into the host pipe, and assembled UGSI's expansion hardware on the exposed ends of the starting stock. Expansion, pressure testing, and demobilization were completed during another day.
Duralinerâ„¢ provided Plum Borough with an effective solution to its leakage problem while minimizing disruption to residents in the area. The Plum Borough Municipal Authority was fully satisfied with project completion and workmanship.
