Regional Municipality of Halton Installs Fusible C-900® Pipe in Two Potable Water Pipe Bursting Projects
Underground Solutions, Inc. (UGSI) provided pipe and fusion services in support of two separate pipe bursting projects completed in Burlington, Ontario during the summer of 2007 for the Regional Municipality of Halton. Marathon Drilling was the contractor on the Kerns Road project, while Avertex completed the Centennial project. Both projects involved rehabilitation of existing water lines by pipe bursting using 8" Fusible C-900® pipe.
Having heard about Fusible PVC™ pipe, Halton researched the innovative technology to determine whether it could be used successfully in its water distribution system. Mark Bajor of Halton Region commented: "Our operations group has long term experience working with AWWA C900 PVC pipe, but we were unaware of Fusible PVC™ pipe being used in pipe bursting. Halton Region is recognized as a leader in trenchless technology, so when Fusible PVC™ pipe became available, we wanted to see how it would perform in a pipe bursting application."

Personnel at Halton said: "We liked the relative hardness and resistance to gouging of Fusible PVC™ pipe for these pipe bursting projects where we needed to upsize existing 6" cast iron and ductile iron lines to 8" to meet our current water demand. Additionally, pipe bursting reduced the social impact to the neighborhood where the work took place. The combination of Fusible C-900® pipe and pipe bursting was simply ideal for our residents and our operators."
