City of Minot, ND uses Fusible C-905® for HDD Sections of Potable Water Transmission Main Project
In August 2007, Robert Gibb & Sons and Earth Burners Inc. (EBI) completed the horizontal directional drilled (HDD) sections for the City of Minot's East Side Water Distribution System Improvement Project utilizing Underground Solutions, Inc. (UGSI) Fusible PVC™ pipe and fusion services.

UGSI's Fusible C-905® was selected over high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and other PVC restrained joint pipe in a competitive bid in which the inner diameter and pressure class were specified by the consulting engineer. By using UGSI's Fusible C-905® pipe, bidding contractors were able to downsize the pipe while still attaining an ID and pressure class equivalent to specified HDPE pipe. Fusible C-905® pipe was specified at 16" DR18 (DIPS) and was evaluated against 20" DR9 (IPS) HDPE pipe. The Fusible PVC™ option allowed for a 50% weight savings and reduced bore hole size compared to the HDPE option. Houston Engineering has specified Fusible PVC™ products on several other upcoming projects.
UGSI's gasket-free, leak-free, fully-restrained pipe system is particularly well suited for trenchless installation in directional drill applications. Reconnections to the existing bell-and-spigot PVC pipe system were accomplished using standard, readily available connections.
