Rehabilitation of Two 6" Water Lines
Underground Solutions (UGSI) was contracted by the city of Lima, Ohio to rehabilitate two existing underground water lines (2000 feet). The lines were both located within the city limits and the goal was to minimize road and rail traffic disruption.
The first line runs under four sets of railroad tracks, and second line is located under North Central Street which is made of cobblestone. The city chose UGSI's Duraliner™ as the method for their water main rehabilitation.
The existing lines were severely tuberculated and required extensive cleaning to remove the build-up within the pipes. UGSI hired a local pipe-cleaning contractor to perform this task. The project also consisted of video inspection the existing six-abor and equipment for the excavation of the pits; they also reconnected the lines, backfilled, restored the site and repaired the road. The UGSI team, which consisted of a site supervisor and two field technicians, completed the installation of the Duraliner™ system in only 2 days.

Conclusion: The location of the existing lines made dig and replace a logistical problem and a costly alternative. Dig and replace was not considered as a viable option for either line. Furthermore, railroad operation was completely unaffected with the installation of the Duraliner™ system. Underground Solutions successfully installed Duraliner™ as specified by the project. The city of Lima was fully satisfied with the project completion and workmanship.
