"We try to serve our customers with methods that have the least impact on their daily lives", said Dave Dalsoglio, Utility Operations Superintendent, Public Works, City and County of Broomfield. "Fusible PVC™ is one of the best advancements I've seen in the water industry," said Dalsoglio. "It just makes sense. And when we discovered a $50,000 savings on our first project with the (FPVC™) material, it really made us take a hard look at how the pipe may fit into our future."
The City and County of Broomfield needed to run a reuse water line along, and under, Sheridan Boulevard to accommodate increasing irrigation demands from new housing developments. They were concerned about the public impact if Sheridan Boulevard was disrupted. Broomfield determined there would be minimal public impact if FPVC™ was installed by horizontal directional drilling under the intersection of 144th & Sheridan Boulevard, under a bike path and public use area, and a crossing under Sheridan near 136th Avenue.
Reducing impact on the public coupled with saving money by eliminating casings and restoration (of roadways, sidewalks, bike paths, and landscaping) led the City and County of Broomfield to select UGSI's Fusible PVC™. BTC and UGSI are currently reviewing plans for the next phase of the project. For additional project information or BTC contact references, contact Susan Pilgram.
