Underground Solutions Inc. and Cape Ann Equipment Install Duraliner™ Expandable PVC Pipe System in Billerica, MA

During the week of August 27, 2007 Underground Solutions Inc. (UGSI), working with Cape Ann Equipment, installed approximately 100 LF of Duraliner™ expandable PVC pipe in the Town of Billerica, MA. The existing 8" ductile iron water line, which passes under a railroad crossing, had previously been taken out of service due to excessive leaks in the line. A temporary bypass line had been installed by the Town to provide water service to residences served by the line until rehabilitation could be completed. In order to eliminate the need to excavate and temporarily remove the railroad tracks, Duraliner™ was selected as the only approved trenchless rehabilitation method by the consulting engineering firm CDM.

"The work performed by UGSI was completed on time prior to the start of the 2007/2008 school year, was professionally accomplished, and met all the requirements of the Contract Documents", said Pablo Noguera, Civil Engineer for the Town of Billerica, MA.

The fused joint, combined with the expansion process, provided a fully structural, close-fit, monolithic and gasket-free pipe liner for the entire 100 feet of host pipe that was rehabilitated under the railroad crossing. The Duraliner™ expandable PVC also provided maximum internal diameter and structural integrity vs. other sliplining solutions. For additional project information please contact Martin Barrette.
