Underground Solutions® Fusible C-905® Installed in American Canyon, CA via Horizontal Directional Drill and Direct Bury
In May 2007, Underground Solutions, Inc. (UGSI) contracted with Mountain Cascade, Inc. to provide UGSI's Fusible C-905® pipe and fusion services for a new Sanitary Sewer Force Main to be installed in American Canyon, CA. The 2,900 LF of new force main was installed using both horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and direct bury, and was connected to the existing force main on June 13, 2007. The line was in put into operation the same day.

By selecting UGSI's Fusible C-905® pipe, American Canyon was able to utilize a single pipe material for the entire length of the force main. Fusible C-905® provided a seamless transition between the HDD and restrained joint portions of the project and the bell and spigot PVC pipe used in other sections of the new force main. Fusible C-905® enabled American Canyon to eliminate costly mechanical restraints and associated installation labor, along with the associated long-term maintenance required by mechanical restraint systems.
American Canyon design engineer Armando Mora stated, "The construction zone was adjacent to environmentally sensitive wetlands, near the Napa River. A significant advantage of using Fusible C-905® was that bi-directional drilling could be used instead of the traditional jacking and boring to go below Rio Del Mar Creek. It reduced the environmental impact and the time needed for construction, and the quick response by UGSI kept the project ahead of schedule."
